Job Summary:
The Town of Islip Community Development Agency is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to manage the day-to-day financial transactions of our Agency. The ideal candidate will be responsible for recording and maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, managing accounts receivable, overseeing accounts payable and performing other reporting functions that contribute to the financial stability of the Agency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record financial transactions in accounting and mortgage software (e.g., SAGE 300, FICS Mortgage Servicer)
- Assist with maintaining accurate financial records of all receivable transactions, including mortgage and rental receivables.
- Record weekly payroll in accounting software.
- Assist with the preparation of vouchers, review account coding and process check runs for multiple entities/funds.
- Process payments received via cash, checks/money orders, or electronic transfers for multiple entities/funds.
- Maintain updated records of accounts receivable transactions, reconcile accounts and investigate any discrepancies.
- Follow up on overdue receivable balances with late notices and collaborate with property manager and third-party agencies to ensure collection.
- Generate and send monthly coupons to clients, as necessary.
- Prepare AR reports, aging analysis and other reports, as necessary.
- Maintain organized and up-to-date financial files and documentation and maintain all vendor payments, including scanning and filing.
- Assist in year-end closing processes.
- Assist CFO with external accountants during audits.
- Prepare year end tax filings (i.e. 1099’s and 1098’s)
- Performs other duties as required to support Accounting team.
Qualification Requirements:
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping practices and accounting principles.
- The successful candidate should have 3-6 years of related experience working as a Bookkeeper.
- Experience with SAGE 300 is preferred.
- Experience with FICS Mortgage Servicer is preferred.
- Strong computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel
- Must be a self-starter with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Must be professional, detail oriented, organized, and reliable.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred.
- Certification (e.g., Certified Bookkeeper) is a plus.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $33.00 - $37.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.00 per week
