What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney- Special Magistrate for Code Enforcement position at Town of Indialantic?
SPECIAL MAGISTRATE SERVICES
The Town of Indialantic (the “Town”) amended its Code of Ordinances to provide for a Special Magistrate to have all the duties, responsibilities, and powers to enforce the Town’s Code of Ordinances as set forth in and governed in all respects by Chapter 162, Fla. Stat. (Section 162.01 – 162.13). The Town intends to enter into a contract with a Special Magistrate for a period of one-year (1) year, which may be renewed following that initial one-year period.
Qualifications for the Special Magistrate are:
1. The Special Magistrate must be an active member of the Florida Bar who has been licensed to practice law in the State of Florida for at least five (5) years.
2. The Special Magistrate shall not be a Town employee.
3. The Special Magistrate shall be compensated at an hourly rate to be determined by the Town Manager and approved by a simple majority of the Town Council.
Submission of Application for Special Magistrate:
Anyone wishing to apply for the position of Special Magistrate shall submit all documents they want included for consideration to the Town Clerk on or before Thursday, March 26, 2026. The submittal must include: (1) a curriculum vitae of the applicant, (2) a certificate of good standing from the Florida Bar for the applicant, and (3) a proposed hourly rate for services.

It is the intention of the Town to have the Town Council vote and select a Special Magistrate at the April 8, 2026 Regular Meeting of the Town Council.
