JOB SUMMARY:

  • The successful candidate will a sworn police officer and be assigned to patrol. Police officers assigned to patrol serve the Town of Huntington by responding to calls for assistance, investigating crimes, enforcing state and local laws, and protecting the safety and property of the community.

COMPENSATION:

  • 40 hours per week
  • $27.40 to $32.21 per hour based on qualifications
  • Benefits per Huntington Personnel Policies & Procedure Manual. Health insurance premiums are paid 75% by the town and 25% by the employee.

POLICE OFFICER – FULL-TIME

JOB DESCRIPTION

Hourly Rate Range: $27.40 to $32.21 per hour depending upon qualifications.

Hours: 40 hours per week

Supervision: This position reports to the Chief of Police.

Benefits: Benefits per Huntington Personnel Policies & Procedure Manual. Health insurance premiums are paid 75% by the town and 25% by the employee.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will a sworn police officer and be assigned to patrol. Police officers assigned to patrol serve the Town of Huntington by responding to calls for assistance, investigating crimes, enforcing state and local laws, and protecting the safety and property of the community.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities listed include the minimum requirements for the

position. This position includes additional duties that are a natural progression from

that position’s essential duties. The omission of specific statements of duties does not

related, or a logical assignment to the position.

  • The protection of life, safety, and the safeguarding of property
  • Prevention and control of crime
  • Investigation of criminal activity
  • Identify and, where appropriate, apprehend criminal offenders and participate in subsequent court proceedings
  • Collecting, receiving, transporting, and proper storage of evidence or other property coming into custody
  • Keeping the peace and preserving good order
  • Responding to emergency and routine calls for service
  • Traffic control and enforcement
  • Assist citizens requesting assistance or information
  • Serve or deliver warrants, summonses, subpoenas, and other official documents
  • Cooperate with and assist other agencies including Federal, State, and local agencies, court departments, and other town departments
  • Successful participation training required to maintain POST certification and other training as assigned by the Chief of Police
  • Perform related duties as needed.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalency Certificate approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education.
  • Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character.
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts motor vehicle driver’s license.
  • Must have a valid Massachusetts Firearms license.
  • Must pass a pre-employment medical exam and drug screening.
  • Must have training and qualification in the use of firearms and radar equipment.
  • Must be certified as a Police Officer by the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Council, the applicant must be a graduate of the Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee Basic Recruit Officer or equivalent.
  • Must be certified as a Police Officer by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission. It is mandatory that the candidate have this certification prior to applying for the position.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of law enforcement duties, including lifting, running, defensive tactics, and extended periods of standing or driving.
  • Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain or snow.
  • There is exposure to life-threatening situations in police investigations for which precautionary measures must be taken.
  • Operates motor vehicles, all police equipment, computer, Microsoft Office software, IMC software and other standard office equipment; required to wear appropriate uniform and equipment.
