Job Overview of the PROGRAM DIRECTOR HINSDALE, NH

Position Purpose:

The purpose of the position is to develop, implement, and administer programs on a town-wide basis. Directly

responsible for the supervision of programs both athletic and general at the Summer Camp; Municipal Pool;

Heritage Park & Prentiss Taylor Field; and the Community Center.

Supervision Received:

Employee receives general supervision of the Town Administrator. Performs regular duties on owner initiative

with independence, exercising judgment and tact answering inquiries determining correct course of action, and

exercises confidentiality. Is expected to maintain and create programs within policy and financial limitations.

Supervision Exercised:

Exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment in the planning; administration; and execution of

programs. Directs and supervises; Recreation Events; and Summer Staff. Assigns and reviews work; trains in

techniques and safety procedures; evaluates performance and recommends disciplinary action.

Essential Functions:

1. Plans, supervises, organizes and implements recreation and special event trips, classes, activities and

events for residents of all ages.

2. Recommends the implementation of new recreation programs and assists development of their guidelines.

3. Reviews and evaluates needs of community for various activities and events.

4. Schedules recreation facilities. Works with outside organizations and groups to coordinate activities.

Assists in the maintenance of all Town recreational facilities.

5. Opens and closes the Community Center for scheduled events.

6. Coordinates and directs all duties and tasks related to the various specific recreation and athletic programs

conducted by the department. Responsibilities to include: setting up schedules and meeting with the Tri

State leagues; handle sign ups; handle all matter related to finances – preparing deposit for Town

Treasurer; submitting bills to be paid; purchasing all supplies; recruit and train referees for all home

contests; schedule practices and arrange for keys to buildings from HES; deal and discipline issues that

need to be brought to the Director level; attend games to access program(s); and lining of the fields.

7. Oversees day to day operation of the summer day camp & municipal pool activities and employees.

Responsibilities to include the following:

a. Summer Camp:

i. Schedule orientation and training of all employees;

ii. Schedule and direct annual orientation for all campers and parents/guardians;

iii. Purchasing of supplies;

iv. Scheduling of special events and/or transportation;

v. Help maintain discipline of campers that escalate to director level.

b. SFSP (Summer Food Service Program)

i. Attends State of NH DOE annual training for SFSP;

ii. Yearly fill out and submit State of NH SFSP application;

iii. Periodically walk through lunch program to make sure meals are within compliance;

kitchen is clean; staff is following proper sanitary guidelines;

iv. Submit and verify claims for SFSP

c. Municipal Pool

i. Schedule trainings and orientation – make sure all staff is compliant to American Red Cross

Standards.

ii. Works as Facility Manager

iii. Purchasing of supplies;

iv. Scheduling of special events and/or transportation;

v. Help maintain discipline pool attendees, that escalate to director level.

8. Meets monthly with Community Center/Recreation Committee with regard to needs and problems, and

utilizes such input for overall planning and programming.

9. Prepares and administers annual department budget; manages departmental operations within budgetary

constraints; reviews and evaluates programs to maintain cost effectiveness in conjunction with the

Community Center/Recreation Committee; daily processing of receipts; processes invoices for payment.

10. Promotes and interprets the recreation and parks programs through press releases and other publicity

through cooperative planning and effective working relationships with other community agencies and

groups, public and private.

11. Directs seasonal employee staff meetings.

12. Adheres to and enforce all rules, regulations, and policies of the Park and Recreation Department and the

Town of Hinsdale.

13. Determine and schedule training for staff.

14. Administer necessary first aid and CPR. Keep a record of each incident on file.

15. Reports problems on a timely manner to Town Administrator.

16. Organizes special events such as Outdoor Hinsdale, Farm Festival.

17. Submits Parade Applications to the State of NH. Submits Fire work Permit to Display to the State of NH

Fire Marshal.

18. Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of facilities management and ability to maintain pool. Basic knowledge of marketing and public

relations. Knowledge of first aid and CPR. Knowledge of modem office practices and equipment, including

desktop computers and standard office software programs; knowledge of facilities management; basic knowledge

of public relations. Skill in basic bookkeeping; organizational skills; skill in human relations. Ability to maintain

accurate records and files. Ability to recognize need for building repairs; ability to communicate effective both

orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments,

employees, and the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of two years experience working directly with youths in

a recreational or educational environment. Ability to obtain First aid certification and CPR certification.

Experience in working with the public and organizing programs essential.

For communicating with others, talking is required; for receiving information and instructions from others,

feel objects or controls, reach with hands and arms, bend, and lift and/or move 45 pounds or less.

Hours: Monday – Friday, and may include some weekends.

Additional hours may be required.

Minimum Hours: 35 hours weeklyoutreach efforts.

Pay: $43,680.00 - $52,000.00 per year
