Emergency Communications Specialist
The Hartford, Vermont Police Department is seeking qualified applicants for the position of full-time Emergency Communications Specialist. This position requires working in a fast-paced telecommunication center answering business and 911 emergency calls and dispatching appropriate police, fire, EMS or other emergency response personnel. The successful applicant will become familiar with computer-based dispatching systems. Training will be provided for the successful candidate to become an EMD and NG911 certified. Qualifications
In addition to those requirements established by the Vermont Enhanced 911 Board and the Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC), the Hartford Police Department has identified the following minimum qualifications for all communications applicants:
This is an opportunity for a self-motivated and dedicated individual to join a professional communication staff in a modern dispatching environment.
Starting pay is $25.28 per hour while in training and includes a complete comprehensive benefits package.

- Age 18 at the time of certification
- U.S. Citizenship or documented authorization to work in the United States
- High school graduate or GED
- National Dispatcher Selection Test
- Typing skills assessment
- Panel interview
- Background, character, and criminal history investigation
- Drug screening
