EMT – TOWN OF HAMBURG EMS
Responsible for responding to calls and providing Emergency Medical Services to those in need. This role reports to the Director of Operations.
Essential Functions
· Respond to 911 emergency calls, examine patients, treat patients, transport patients, and report on patient medical condition to an emergency room nurse or physician in person or via electronic means.
· Work safely and efficiently while operating an emergency vehicle delivering emergency personnel to the scene and patients to the hospitals.
· Administration of emergency medications orally or by injection.
· Maintain patient confidentiality.
· Maintain high quality of patient care by assuming responsibilities for medical care of the patient and carrying out established policies and procedures.
· Gather patient billing information and appropriate billing signatures.
· Prepare and submit EMS pre-hospital care reports.
· Assure that emergency vehicles are completely inventoried, stocked and in order throughout the work shift.
· Maintain the cleanliness of vehicle and area stations.
· Attend training classes to maintain certification licensure, keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge. Comply with continuing education requirements and maintain all relevant certifications.
· Adhere to established pre-hospital care protocols.
Knowledge and Competencies
The ideal candidate will have the following:
· Thorough knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site Emergency Medical Services.
· Knowledge in all aspects of patient movement including, but not limited to, lifting from the ground, lifting a patient while on the cot, lifting a patient in a stair chair, carrying a patient down steps in a stair chair or cot, moving patients from one surface to another (cot to bed, cot to bench seat, etc.).
· Thorough knowledge of modern EMS principals, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
· Knowledge of medical physiology, medical terminology, the assessment and management of medical and trauma emergencies;
· Knowledge of the routine maintenance and minor repair of ambulance equipment used in delivery of EMS
· Use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing and e-mail.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency.
· Maintain integrity and good judgement at all times.
· Shows initiative and resourcefulness.
· Willingness to work varied required shifts based on operational needs.
· Strong oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to walk over rough or uneven surfaces, bend and stoop, work in confined spaces and lift or carry heavy items over 50lbs.
· Great perception of color, sound, odor, depth, texture, and vision.
Requirements:
· NYS Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician certification at the time of application and must maintain such certification for the duration of employment and all credentials to be eligible to be an online provider.
· Valid Class D New York State Drivers’ License with acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and maintain such license for the duration of employment.
· Minimum of two (2) years recent clinical experience in a prehospital setting.
· CPR Certification.
· High School Diploma or GED.
Pay
Commensurate based on experience, knowledge and qualifications.
