Automotive Mechanic/Equipment Operator - Full-Time

The Town of Guilderland is accepting applications from candidates interested in applying for a full-time position of Automotive Mechanic or Equipment Operator in the Highway Department.

Starting salary: $24.45 – $29.34 per hour

Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:00am - 3:30pm, overtime required

Diesel Certification (Certified Diesel Mechanic) is strongly preferred.

Primary duties may include but are not limited to:

· Overhauling, rebuilding, and making repairs to various automotive and diesel equipment and machinery including: heavy-duty trucks, backhoes, loaders, graders, gasoline motors, transmissions, differentials, and carburetors;

· Repairing and replacing electrical and electronic ignition systems, fuel pumps, generators, alternators, and starters;

· Mounting and attaching snow plows, sanders, and auxiliary equipment and connecting hydraulic systems to vehicles;

· Inspecting automotive equipment and machinery to ensure safety standards are met;

· Operating a dump truck to haul materials such as sand, gravel, cement, stone, dirt, and other materials to construction projects;

· Operating a truck to spread sand or salt on icy roads and to plow and haul snow to a dumping point;

· Operating a packer truck to collect bags and brush.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Knowledge of standard automotive repairs, terminology, and tools used to repair heavy automotive equipment, including diesel equipment;

· Experience with automotive diagnostics and mechanical repairs;

· One (1) year of experience in the operation of a truck requiring a Class B license to operate;

· Ability to work overtime.

Experience:
