Multi-specialized professional library work requiring direction and coordination within a team/unit setting. Responsible for the smooth functioning of all library services within the assigned team/unit’s area of responsibility by suggesting improvements, and implementing approved solutions. Performs both technical and back-up coordinative duties by applying professional techniques to library problems. Some evening and weekend/alternate hours required.
 
Reports to a Librarian III, Library Manager, or Library Director.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Library Information Science from an ALA accredited college or university plus 18 months of experience in professional library work.
 
SPECIAL NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS FOR LEVEL II:
 
Some positions may require hands on experience adding content to the online catalog or library website.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
 
Knowledge of adult, teen, and/or children’s literature or services in all formats.
 
Knowledge of professional library principles, methods, materials and administrative practices and a willingness to work with patrons of all ages.
 
Working knowledge, skill and ability in the use of online databases.
 
Demonstrated ability to operate a wide variety of computer, audiovisual and office equipment related to library operations including the use of computer hardware and library software products.
 
Ability to make decisions based on established policies and procedures.
 
Ability to listen and communicate in an honest, direct and tactful manner in meetings and one-on-one with team members. 
 
Ability to work independently and with other team members to carry out all of the tasks and charges that are required to give excellent service.
 
Ability to manage time, to set priorities and communicate with other team members as needed.
 
Ability to physically perform the duties of the position shelving books, setting up and troubleshooting equipment, etc.
 
Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, climb stools and push fully loaded book trucks in the performance of the work.
 
Ability to work well with volunteer and community groups.
 
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with library patrons, trustees, volunteers, town officials and other staff members including the ability to deal tactfully, and communicate effectively and harmoniously.
 
Considerable knowledge of general interest levels and types of print, audio-visual and electronic resources by various authors, producers or composers.
 
Considerable subject knowledge background in such areas as business, internet searching, adult programming, readers’ advisory services and reference in children’s services.
 
Working knowledge of online databases and website content.
 
Ability to effectively identify, plan and communicate team goals and responsibilities.
 
Ability to train and motivate team/unit members.
 
Ability to negotiate with vendors of library goods and services.
 
Ability to oversee subordinates and clerical staff.

ESSENTIAL FEATURES:
 
May manage and maintain content on the Library website or in the online catalog; may work directly with patrons to troubleshoot remote access problems.
 
In cooperation with library collection managers and material selectors, may select web links and services for the Library website.
 
May be responsible for assisting the Children’s Librarian in all areas of Children’s Services.
 
Implements and may initiate outreach programs and training for specific user groups.
 
May create and maintain databases of local information.
 
May select, classify and catalog all library materials in all formats. 
 
Works with librarians on other teams to develop selection profiles and evaluate use of collection. Analyzes circulation trends to enhance library collections. 
 
Responsible for all activities relating to designated materials collection; evaluates, maintains and updates the collection as needed. May be responsible for Young Adult collections, services and programming.
 
Works with professional, para-professional, and clerical staff within the library and areas of primary responsibility among teams. Trains and supports staff, develops training materials and conducts training programs for staff and public; may interview and recommend part-time staff.
 
Provides quality public service by responding to reference questions, conducting readers’ advisory, and helping patrons use print and online library materials and related equipment. Instructs patrons in the use of online databases; creates and maintains databases of local information.
 
Works and negotiates with database vendors and periodical distributors to provide Library patrons with electronic information and print materials in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
 
May serve as liaison with Greenwich schools, Friends groups, Board committees or other community groups as determined by the Team and Library Director; responsible for planning and performing story hour and educational library programs.
 
Keeps current with developments in the library profession. Attends professional meetings and staff conferences; creates and carries out an individualized plan for updating and broadening information, technical, communication and team skills and incorporating them to enhance team operations.
 
May be responsible for scheduling and reference coverage; may oversee and supervise Librarian I’s and support staff as needed.
 
Performs related work as required.
 

All positions may be subject to an interview process.  The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.

All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
