General Statement of Duties
Facilitates children’s library programs and provides quality patron service to children, their caregivers, and other adults working with children.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree in Library Science or Education from an accredited university or college; plus (1) year of experience working in library services for children or literacy-related educational services for children.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated knowledge of children’s literature and early childhood development principles.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with children of all ages.
Proven ability to communicate effectively and harmoniously with staff and patrons.
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and positively with groups of children, teaching staff, parents and members of the general public.
Flexible schedule and ability to work mornings and afternoons.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists with the planning and implementation of age-appropriate library programs incorporating the use of acclaimed children’s literature, traditional storytelling, music and other media.
Interacts effectively and with positive resilience when working with with children.
Assists with educating and advising parents in areas of literature selection and in specific programs modeling, thereby encouraging family literacy.
Interprets library rules and procedures in a friendly manner appropriate to the sensitivities, safety and rights of children.
Promotes reading through displays, booklists, and programs.

All positions may be subject to an interview process. The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test that includes testing for THC (the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana), given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
