TRANSIT TEAM MEMBERS – PART-TIME VEHICLE OPERATORS
About the Role
The Town of Great Barrington is hiring Part-Time Vehicle Operators to support our growing South County Connector transit service. Operators drive 5-12 seat passenger vans (no CDL required) to provide safe, friendly, and reliable transportation for residents and visitors across South County. Operators may work up to 19 hours per week.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate a 12-passenger van during scheduled shifts
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report any mechanical concerns
- Engage with in-vehicle tablets for directions and to record ridership
- Assist passengers boarding and exiting the vehicle, including those using mobility aids
- Secure mobility devices and ensure passenger safety at all times
- Communicate with dispatch and follow routing or scheduling updates
- Provide courteous and professional customer service
- Complete trip logs, mileage, and incident reports accurately
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and appearance
- Enforce passenger conduct and safety rules
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Pay & Training
- 30 hours of paid training
- $21.75/hour for all hours worked, including training
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Required Qualifications
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Minimum age 18
- Ability to pass a CORI background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening
- Ability to lift, secure, or assist with items or mobility aids up to 25 lbs
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Minimum one year of customer service experience required
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating passenger vans, shuttles, or similar vehicles
- Familiarity with Great Barrington and surrounding South County areas
- Experience working with seniors or persons with disabilities
- Basic vehicle and safety awareness
