What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Laborer position at Town of Gorham?
The Town of Gorham’s Public Works Department is accepting applications for several temporary seasonal positions to work in the spring and summer months. The hours may include up to 40 hours a week and the possibility of some night and weekend work. Seasonal work may start as early as May 1st and end as late as September 1st. If you are looking to gain valuable work experience, or bridge gaps in current employment, this is an excellent opportunity.
Active individuals who enjoy working outdoors will help maintain the Town’s municipal properties including athletic fields, parks, cemeteries, trails and buildings. Qualified individuals will have demonstrated experience using typical landscaping tools, such as a weed whacker, lawn mower and gardening tools. Candidates should also be familiar with use of light carpentry equipment such as hand drills, circular saw and other minor tools, and possess a working knowledge of trail work. Duties will also include assisting in the repair of roads including patching; and transporting dirt, gravel, wood and construction materials. The Town of Gorham offers competitive pay and employees accrue Earned Paid Leave in proportion to the number of hours worked. Pay starts at $18.00 per hour and is commensurate with experience. Successful candidates that remain employed through September 1st will be
REQUIREMENTS:Ability to lift 75 pounds and work safely in most summer weather conditions is required. Applicants must be at least 17 years of age to apply (some equipment and activities restricted to 18 ). Must hold a valid State of Maine Class C motor vehicle license.
