What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time CDL Driver Operator position at Town of Gorham?
We are currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for two (2) full-time (40-hour/week) Driver Operator positions in the Public Works Department. The Driver Operator holds a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and is responsible for the safe, skilled and efficient operation of a variety of light and heavy equipment associated with snow removal, repair, maintenance and construction of Town of Gorham roads, sidewalks, parks, and cemeteries. In addition to operating equipment, the Driver Operator performs general laborer functions such as patching roads, raking hot top, mowing grass, shoveling, cutting brush and directing traffic. Work is performed year-round in a variety of weather conditions under the general direction of the Road Foreman.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A High School Diploma is required. A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and the ability to pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol tests are required. Prior experience in the operation of standard automotive equipment heavier than passenger vehicles required. Prior experience operating heavy equipment, such as tractors, loaders and backhoes preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered. Driver Operators must have the ability to work extended and on-call hours as needed, including nights, weekends and holidays, such as during and after winter storm events. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: The Town of Gorham offers a comprehensive package of pay, benefits, and paid time off to eligible employees. The Town currently pays 90% of the premium cost for all health insurance coverage levels and provides a generous Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help cover the cost of out-of-pocket medical expenses, such as deductible and coinsurance. Individuals covered by an alternative health plan are eligible for an annual medical buyout in lieu of coverage (currently $3,037 - $6,812 based on coverage eligibility). Salary range for Grade 4 positions begins at $24.47/hour.
