What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Beach Lifeguard position at Town of Golden Beach, Florida?
and Nature of work:
- General lifesaving work in the preservation of safety and order, including constant monitoring of swimmers in the Atlantic Ocean as well as monitoring of unsafe activities that may be occurring on the beach itself.
- Perform routine public contact and safety work serving as beach lifeguard
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent; CPR certification; 40 hour USLA Lifeguard Training or be able to obtain before assignment date; current certification in American Heart or Red Cross Basic Life Support, 40-hour First Responder Certificate or be able to obtain before assignment date and must possess a valid Florida driver license. Must successfully complete Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification within one year of employment.
- Certification from the Federal Emergency Management Administration, National Incident Management System IS-700, Introduction to NIMS, IS-800 National Response Plan, and IS-100 Introduction to Incident Command System or be able to obtain within 3 months of hire date.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Some knowledge of first aid and lifesaving techniques
- Considerable skill as a swimmer
- Ability to swim long distances under adverse conditions
- Ability to learn lifesaving and water safety procedures
- Ability to learn to operate a rescue paddle boat in rough turf
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with residents and other employees
- Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions
Physical and/or Special Requirements:
- You must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact.
- Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, or kneeling.
- Some crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to pass the Beach Patrol's physical requirements test (e.g., prolonged running in ankle deep sand, swimming through "crashing surf," pulling, lifting and carrying unconscious victims, etc.).

Miscellaneous:
- Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of training and experience; psychological evaluation; polygraph examination; background investigation; medical evaluation; controlled substance screen.
- Applicants are required to sign an affidavit for non-use of tobacco products in order to be considered for employment.
