The Town of Front Royal is seeking dedicated individuals to join our Water Treatment Plant team. Operators perform essential technical work in the operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant and related equipment, ensuring the delivery of safe and clean drinking water to the community. The entry level hiring rate for this position (no experience required) is $16.78/hourly with training and support to obtain a Class IV Operators Certification within one year of employment. The Water Treatment Plant runs 24/7/365.

- Learn to operate a Water Treatment plant, Raw and Potable Pumping Stations; take samples; read gauges and charts; maintain plant equipment to ensure federal and state water quality standards compliance.
- Help to maintain records of water samples.
- Prepare reports.
- Help oversee proper functioning of water pumps, motors, chlorinators, filters, and chemical feeders making adjustments as necessary to maintain proper flow of water under direction of qualified operator.
- Maintain proper levels in clear wells, storage tanks, and reservoirs.
- Compile and maintain reports on water treated for monthly and daily averages.
- Add or adjust addition of chemicals to water as necessary under direction of qualified operator.
- Take notes of readings of meters and indicators.
- Collect water samples from designated points.
- Help perform basic chemical tests.
- Unload and properly store chemical supplies.
- Maintain proper water levels for fire suppression.
- Check pump houses for proper operation.
- Make chlorine feed and treatment adjustments under direction of qualified operator.
- Replenish treatment equipment with chemicals.
- Maintain records of chemical usage.
- Report any needed maintenance to supervisor.
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and pumps.
- Perform daily chemical and physical analyses on raw and finished water.
- Perform building and grounds maintenance duties.
- Perform related tasks as required.
- Cover shifts when needed

- Education: High School Diploma or GED
- Licensure: Possession of a valid Virginia driver's license
- Certifications: Class 4 Water Operators License within 1 year of employment
- Experience: Previous experience in water treatment operations is desirable but not required
