The Town of Falmouth is seeking an experienced beach, aquatics, or recreation professional to join the Falmouth Beach Team as our Seasonal Beach Coordinator. In this key operational leadership role, the Seasonal Beach Coordinator assists the Beach Superintendent and Assistant Beach Superintendent with overseeing the Town’s seasonal beach operations at the Ellen T. Mitchell Bathhouse and its ten public beaches, some of the most popular and scenic coastal destinations on Cape Cod. Applicants with prior supervisory experience in waterfront, aquatics, or recreation operations are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Seasonal Beach Coordinator helps coordinate daily operations across multiple locations and oversees and supports a large seasonal workforce of more than 150 lifeguards, parking attendants, and beach clerks dedicated to providing safe, welcoming, and enjoyable waterfront experiences for residents and visitors.

This position is scheduled for up to 36 hours per week from Memorial Day through Labor Day, including weekends and holidays. Preference will be given to candidates who are also available to work up to 19 hours per week from April 15 through Memorial Day and from Labor Day through October 15.

Under the direction of the Beach Superintendent and Assistant Beach Superintendent, the Seasonal Beach Coordinator oversees and supports staff, monitors operations, and helps ensure that Town-owned beaches remain safe, clean, and well-managed throughout the busy summer season and during the off-season. This position assists the Beach Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent with a wide range of operational and supervisory responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with the recruitment, hiring, re-hiring, and onboarding of approximately 150 seasonal Beach employees;
  • Supporting the Beach Superintendent and Assistant Beach Superintendent with the orientation, training, and general supervision of seasonal Beach staff;
  • Conducting site visits to the Ellen T. Mitchell Bathhouse and all Town-owned beaches to monitor operations and provide guidance and feedback to staff;
  • Assisting with daily operational coordination to help ensure consistent safety and service standards across all locations;
  • Reconciling fees collected and deposited by Beach staff;
  • Serving as a liaison between the Beach Team and the DPW Highway Division’s Beach Maintenance Subdivision;
  • Responding to public inquiries regarding beach operations, policies, and services; and
  • Performing other related duties as needed to support safe and efficient Beach Team operations.

The Beach Team oversees operations at the Ellen T. Mitchell Bathhouse and the Town’s ten public beaches: Menauhant Beach, Bristol Beach, Falmouth Heights Beach, Surf Drive Beach, Mill Road Extension Beach, MBL Stoney Beach, Goodwill Park Beach, Wood Neck Beach, Chapoquoit Beach, Old Silver Beach, and Megansett Beach.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have an associate degree in recreation, sports management, education, program management, or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in beach, waterfront, aquatics, or community recreation management that includes supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. The successful candidate must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the Bathhouse and the Town’s beach locations.

Applicants must also possess Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Waterfront Skills certification, or have the ability to obtain certification within the first sixty (60) days of employment.

The ideal candidate takes initiative and demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Successful candidates are dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable supervising staff and coordinating operations in a fast-paced seasonal environment.

Starting Hourly Rate: Step 1 ($25.62/hour) up to Step 5 ($31.14/hour) of the 5-step wage schedule , commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a seasonal, non-benefit-eligible position.
