What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Assistant position at Town of Esto?
The Town of Esto is accepting applications for a part-time Public Works Assistant. This position supports the Town’s Public Works Department and assists with water system operations, public works maintenance, equipment operation, and general maintenance of Town roads, facilities, parks, and property.
The Public Works Assistant works under the direction of the Public Works Director and should have a strong work ethic, be dependable, and be able to perform outdoor manual labor in varying weather conditions.
Duties include:
- Assisting with installation, repair, and maintenance of water system components, including meters, service lines, valves, hydrants, and related equipment.
- Reading water meters, flushing water lines and hydrants, marking utilities for 811 requests, and assisting with precautionary boil water notices when needed.
- Maintaining Town rights-of-way, parks, and facilities through mowing, trimming, edging, brush cutting, and debris removal.
- Assisting with road, drainage, culvert, ditch, and storm cleanup work.
- Operating Town equipment and vehicles, including tractors, mowers, trailers, and similar equipment as assigned.
- Performing general maintenance of Town vehicles, equipment, buildings, and facilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Florida driver’s license.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
- Ability to perform light to heavy manual labor outdoors.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or after-hours during emergency situations when needed.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires the ability to lift and carry tools and equipment, routinely lift up to 40 pounds, bend, kneel, stoop, and work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
