Crossing Guard (Substitute)

Hours of work: 2 hours per day, split between morning and afternoon
(Hours fall between 7:00am-9:15am and 2:00pm-3:45pm)

Hourly Rate – $20.00

This is a responsible position involving the safety of children by guiding them across
designated school area intersections. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and

be able to successfully complete a criminal background check and drug test.

CROSSING GUARD

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible position required to ensure that safety is provided for children going
to/returning from school. Works independently and is responsible for all aspects of child safety while on duty.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Crossing Guard Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular & punctual attendance; set up traffic cones in crosswalk areas, safely cross
children in assigned crosswalk area, report problems of child safety to Supervisor, such as bullying and other safety
hazards such as dangerous drivers. Wear safety vest and use assigned safety gear such as hand-held stop signs. Ability
to follow directions.

The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision and hearing abilities required by this job include
vision correctable to 20/20 and the ability to hear various dangers to children crossing i.e. cars, trucks, sirens, etc.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters
while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly
works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.

Must be able to perform tasks requiring independent knowledge.

The noise in the work environment is usually moderate.

The work area may be uncomfortably warm or cold.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Some knowledge of public safety; ability to deal with young children; knowledge of
general first aid a plus, knowledge of cell phone or two-way radio; be courteous to the public.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED).
Must be able to pass criminal background check.
