The East Hartford Public Library is seeking a Digital Inclusion Manager with a library or instructional background to join our collaborative and innovative staff as a member of our Workforce Development & Digital Inclusion (WDDI) team. This position has primary responsibility for our digital navigation program including training and coordination of part-time staff.  

This is a full-time 35-hour per week position including one evening shift per week.

 Flex schedule and four-day workweek options available. 


The Digital Inclusion Manager works under the general supervision of the Head of Workforce Development & Digital Inclusion.

  • Plans work according to established library procedures
  • Establishes task priorities within work unit
  • Assists in near term and long range planning
  • Provides reference and readers advisory services
  • Assists with library circulation functions as needed
  • Provides technology instruction and basic support
  • Plans and executes library programs
  • Markets library programs and services through flyer creation, social media promotion,
  • written press releases, and other strategies
  • Collaborates with community partners
  • Prepares statistical reports as requested
  • Supports collection management functions, including materials selection and weeding
  •  Attends meetings and participates in professional library organizations


  • ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • May train and supervise clerical, paraprofessional and subordinate professionals in specific tasks
    • May administer the entire library in the absence of a librarian in a more responsible position
    • May work cross-departmentally, including with different age groups (adult, teen, children’s) regardless of primary departmental assignment
  • Strong understanding of principles and practices related to digital navigation within a library or public-service environment
  • Ability to learn and teach basic technological concepts related to internet services, computer and device characteristics, and common online services and applications
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to establish trust with clients of varied educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Positive attitude, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor
  • Ability to creatively solve problems, and to negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner
  • Ability to establish appropriate boundaries with clients
  • Familiarity with the ethics and values of the profession, including an understanding of the Library Bill of Rights, the ALA Code of Ethics, freedom of information, confidentiality of library records, and privacy issues
  • Preference for bilingual language skills (Spanish)

Work Environment

Work is performed under the supervision of a supervisory librarian or library administrator in a

public service or office setting which is subject to interruptions and background noise. Performs

varied functions requiring judgment to ensure compliance with applicable departmental and town

policies, procedures and methods.

Must be mobile, able to push/pull 50 pounds and lift objects up to 30 pounds. Must be able to

stand or sit for prolonged periods, up to four hours. Must be able to perform such tasks as

writing, filing, keyboarding, using a calculator, and other skills which require hand-eye

coordination.

May be in constant contact with employees and the general public. Must be able to concentrate

on fine details with occasional interruption and remember multiple assignments. Must be able to

communicate in English and be understood clearly; hearing requirements include the ability to

effectively interact with customers in person or by telephone.

May be exposed to dust, book mold and mildew, fluctuations in inside temperatures and electromagnetic radiation as in computer screens.


: Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent subject-relevant master’s-level degree from an accredited college

Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Salary : $61,659 - $69,358
