The Seasonal Camp Counselor is responsible for creating a fun, inclusive, and engaging camp experience for children of varying ages and abilities. Counselors will lead recreational activities, foster a positive environment, and ensure the safety and well-being of all campers while adhering to East Hartford Parks and Recreation policies and Town of East Hartford regulations.
Responsible for facilitating fun and inclusive activities for campers of a wide range of ages and abilities while providing a safe and professional environment at all times that adhere to the East Hartford Parks and Recreation’s policies and regulations in conjunction with the Town of East Hartford.
Salary: $16.94- Must be 16 years of age or older.

- Actively maintain sign-in/out records while following proper procedures.
- Review and maintain detailed rosters of assigned campers.
- Provide quality customer service to all participants.
- Enforce and adhere to all East Hartford Parks and Recreation policies and regulations.
- Ensure campgrounds are maintained, cleaned, and supervised at all times.
- Develop, plan, implement, and supervise activities throughout the day.
- Follow assigned schedule while actively participating in all activities.
- Assist Lifeguards with supervision during aquatic activities.
- Maintain a controlled and professional atmosphere during on-site and off-site field trips.
- Ensure safe practices with all equipment and supplies.
- Utilize CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training when necessary.
- Communicate issues, concerns, or announcements effectively among staff and parents/guardians.
- Provide proper documentation for incidents, accidents, and behavior reports.
- Provide reasonable accommodations for participants with special needs.
- Implement proper behavior management and discipline procedures.
- Distribute any handouts to parents/guardians.
- Assist in the overall operation of the camp program.
- Act as a mentor for new staff and a role model for campers and staff.
- Follow any instructions provided by the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills to manage groups of campers effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with campers, parents, and staff.
- Ability to plan, implement, and supervise engaging activities for various age groups.
- Proficiency in problem-solving and conflict resolution in a fast-paced environment.
- Competence in record-keeping and documentation (sign-in/out sheets, incident reports).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and foster positive relationships.
- Adaptability to changing schedules and situations, including handling emergencies calmly.
- Physical ability to participate in outdoor activities, supervise campers, and assist lifeguards during aquatic activities.
- Capacity to maintain a safe and controlled environment during on-site and off-site activities.
- Ability to serve as a role model and mentor, demonstrating professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Previous experience working with children in a camp, recreational, or educational setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive relationships with campers and staff.
- Creativity, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for working with children.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and respond to emergencies calmly and effectively.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is strongly recommended.
