What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver (Per Diem) for Community Services position at Town of East Greenwich?
The Town of East Greenwich is looking for per diem bus drivers.
The substitute bus driver will provide transportation for East Greenwich seniors and adults with disabilities as needed, occasionally with little advance notice. This position is responsible for the effective daily operation and safety of a 14-passenger bus. This positions also handles the collection of transportation fees as needed. The position does not require the regular oversight of employees and the employee works under the general supervision of the Senior Services Manager.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides safe transportation for East Greenwich seniors, including assisting with wheelchair clients.
- Works closely with Senior Center Manager to learn the schedules and meets prior to providing transportation for route assignment.
- Performs pre-vehicle inspection and notifies the supervisor of any problems that exist.
- Assists all passengers on and off the vehicle with walkers, wheelchairs or other mobility devices and carefully loads groceries or other items for clients. Cautions passengers on steps and other objects in their path.
- Ensures all passengers are safe and follow safety protocols.
- Cleans and provides routine service of a non-mechanical nature to vehicle.
- Completes necessary documentation on a daily basis to ensure that there is an accurate record of rides and any fees collected.
- Must be able to work as needed, occasionally with little advance notice.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned by the Senior Center Manager or Director of Community Services.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred. 1 year of related work experience operating a bus is required.
- Valid Rhode Island Chauffeurs License is required.
- Valid Rhode Island Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger Endorsement is preferred.
- No major driving violations for the past three (3) years.
- Prior experience working with seniors and/or adults with disabilities preferred.
- Approved Criminal Background and License Checks required.
- First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification preferred.
