Justice Court Attendant (Bailiff)

The Town of East Greenbush is currently seeking applications to fill the position of Justice Court Attendant.

The Justice Court Attendant works under the supervision of the Town Justices and the Town Supervisor. Preference will be given to applicants with professional experience in a courtroom or court office setting.

Typical Responsibilities:

· Arranges court room for neatness and correct setting;

· Maintains order in courtroom during sessions;

· Communicates with the Police Department on occasion;

· Maintains simple court records;

· Verifies attendance of parties prior to hearings;

· Performs errands as directed by the judge or other court officers;

· Performs miscellaneous civilian police tasks on assignment

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

· Detail Oriented.

· Ability to plan and schedule work efficiently, effectively and professionally in accordance with established procedures.

· An ability to perform various clerical and administrative duties with specialized attention to the fact that the information, decisions, and communication may be sensitive or confidential.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. (a.) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma; OR

(b.) Graduation from an accredited college or a related field.

2. Other things being equal, preference will be given to Town of East Greenbush residents or those planning or able to establish residency in East Greenbush upon job offer.

Work Environment:

· Consists of both office work and court work. Court is scheduled at least four (4) evenings per month, plus hearings and any additional requirements by the Judge.

· Regular contact with town departments, as well as state, regional and local agencies, and frequent contact with the general public and applicants.

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The salary for this position is $35/hour commensurate with experience and qualifications.
