POSITION: The City is seeking an individual to work part-time at the Municipal Pool throughout the year. The Head Pool Lifeguard (WSI Certified) assists the Recreation Coordinator in the instruction and leading of Pool Lifeguards and Pool Lifeguard Instructors. The Head Pool Lifeguard plans and administers seasonal aquatics activities, assists in maintaining a safe environment, performs swim rescues and emergency medical treatment, and assists in the maintenance and operations of the facility and equipment.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will have the equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, supplemented by specialized lifeguard training, and one year of responsible experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor. The ideal candidate will know lifeguarding, American Red Cross and First Aid swim instruction principles and practices, as well as emergency response methods. The ideal candidate will know the policies and procedures established for the operation of the pool, and will be able to supervise the daily operations of the facility. The ideal candidate will know lifeguard training techniques and will be able to instruct pool lifeguards in lifeguarding, lifeguard teaching, and swim teaching techniques. The ideal candidate will be able to provide leadership within the work group and clearly communicate City, pool, and safety regulations to City staff and the public while maintaining a friendly, helpful manner. The ideal candidate will understand record keeping methods and techniques, and will be able to prepare concise written reports and records. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of materials and equipment used to maintain the pool, and will be able to perform some facility maintenance and a variety of custodial functions around the pool area. Experience as an American Red Cross Instructor, and college or university-level work in recreation, physical education, education, or a related field are desirable.

- Supervise daily pool operations and maintain records of activities and operations;
- Enforce facility policies, rules, and regulations and ensure adherence to safety standards;
- Supervise the daily activities and swim teaching techniques of pool lifeguards;
- Observe swimmers in the pool and the surrounding area;
- Perform emergency rescues and lifesaving/First Aid techniques, including mouth-to-mask resuscitation;
- Perform maintenance and repairs on facilities and equipment, and perform a variety of custodial functions around the pool area; and
- Prepare financial, attendance, and program reports.

- C.P.R. for the Professional Rescuer certificate, issued by the American Red Cross;
- Water Safety Instructor Certificate, issued by the American Red Cross; and
- First Aid Certificate that meets State of California Title 22 requirements, or incumbent must take the first class offered by the City of San Clemente.
