What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Legal Secretary position at Town of Derry?
The Derry Police Department is in search of a highly professional Legal Secretary to support our Prosecution function. This is a part-time position, 29 hours per week.
The Secretary is responsible for providing comprehensive and diverse administrative support to the Police Prosecution function. Duties include, but are not limited to, typing legal documents; scheduling appointments and court appearances; creating and maintaining legal files, generating subpoenas; providing discovery material; assisting victims and witnesses through the criminal justice system; and providing secretarial support to Detectives as needed.
This position requires an Associates Degree or higher with a focus on Paralegal Studies, plus three years of progressively responsible experience working within the criminal justice system; or other combination of training and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job. Justice of the Peace commission preferred as well an ability to acquire SPOTS certification within 6 months of hire. The successful candidate must also pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen, and comply with the Department Tattoo Policy which prohibits any tattoo above the collarbone, on the face, or on the hand(s).
