What You’ll Do
As Town Engineer, you will oversee the Civil Engineering Division and serve as a key partner in long-range planning, capital project delivery, regulatory compliance, and public engagement. Your work will directly shape the town’s water, wastewater, roadway, stormwater, and resiliency infrastructure.
Your Work Will Include
- Leading long-range capital planning and aligning infrastructure projects with the Town’s strategic and climate resiliency goals.
- Managing CIP projects, subdivision reviews, and small municipal projects from concept through completion.
- Overseeing procurement, bidding, permitting, contract administration, and quality control for engineering projects.
- Managing GIS systems, technology tools, and electronic permitting platforms.
- Serving as the Town’s Dam Safety designee and FEMA flood mapping representative.
- Coordinating with Planning, Conservation, ZBA, ISD, Public Works divisions, and external consultants.
- Preparing reports, cost estimates, and engineering recommendations for boards, committees, and public meetings.
- Overseeing division budgets, betterment assessments, compliance documentation, and regulatory submissions.

An Ideal Candidate Brings
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (required); Master’s preferred
- 15 years of professional civil/environmental engineering experience; 5 years supervisory
- Massachusetts PE license (reciprocity with ability to obtain within 18 months)
- Experience with infrastructure planning, hydraulic/hydrologic design, stormwater compliance, roadway/utility construction, or similar work — public or private sector
- Familiarity with engineering technologies (AutoCAD, HydroCAD, ESRI, GIS mapping, Bluebeam, Adobe)
- Strong leadership, communication, budgeting, and project-management skills
- Municipal experience is not required. We welcome skilled engineers from consulting firms, utilities, construction management, environmental engineering, transportation, and related fields.
- 35 hours/week
- Monday–Wednesday: 7:00 AM–2:30 PM; Thursday: 7:00 AM–5:30 PM: Friday: 7:00 AM–11:00 AM
- Management Payscale range of $123,358.00 to $142,742.00; hiring rate DOQ.
