Water Treatment Operator
Job Title: Town of Corydon Water Treatment Plant Operator
Department: Public Works / Water Department
Reports to: Water Superintendent and Town Manager or Town Council
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt / Full-Time
Location: Corydon, Indiana
Position Overview
The Water Treatment Plant Operator ensures safe drinking water by monitoring, maintaining, and
controlling plant equipment and chemical processes. This position ensures reliable water
treatment, regulatory compliance, and the efficient operation and maintenance of town
infrastructure. The Operator coordinates closely with the Water Treatment Superintendent, other
Town Departments, the Town Manager, contractors, and state regulatory agencies.
Key Responsibilities
Water Treatment System
o Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Town’s water treatment system.
o Ensure compliance with all state and federal drinking water laws and regulations.
o Operate and adjust chemical feed systems to treat water.
o Routine monitoring Scada panels and controls.
o Collect and perform routine daily water tests.
o Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
o Monitor water quality and coordinate with laboratory testing, as required.
o Maintain accurate records of system operations, maintenance activities, and readings.
o Requires rotating weekends and holidays, with emergency overtime.
Standard Operating Procedures
This position is to adhere to the Water Treatment Standard Operating Procedures (SOP-WT001),
a policy built focused on behavioral and work expectations including codes of conduct,
protocols, directives, work instructions, and operating procedures. The principle of the policy is
to reduce work risk and enhance efficiency within the department.
Qualifications
o High school diploma or GED required.Town of Corydon
Water Treatment Operator
o Minimum of 1 year experience in public works, utilities, or municipal maintenance.
o Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
o Knowledge of water treatment, distribution, and maintenance techniques.
o Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
o Ability to read meters, gauges, and document readings.
o Must be able to perform lawn maintenance and housekeeping duties.
o Must be able to properly handle and maintain the storage of chemicals.
o Must have the ability to read and accurately follow diagrams and detailed instructions to
repair water treatment systems.
o Must have the ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally to document
readings, maintain records, and work with departmental personnel.
Working Conditions
o Work is performed indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
o Exposure to noise, chemicals, confined spaces, and potentially hazardous conditions.
o May be required to lift over 50 lbs. and operate heavy equipment.
o Must have the ability to climb up and down ladders, lift heavy equipment, and work in
confined spaces.
o Will be required to work in a safe manner in accordance with OSHA, U.S. EPA, IDEM,
OWQ, and Town standards.
o Hard hat, safety vest, gloves, safety toe shoes, safety glasses, ear protection and gloves
will be required, when necessary.
Must pass a background check and drug screening.
