Summer Sports Camp Site Supervisor - Part Time/Seasonal

Pay Rate Scale: $15 /hr - dependent upon qualifications

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Athletics Program Manager, the Summer Sports Camp Site Supervisor is responsible for supervising the assigned Sports Camp for the week, which may vary weekly. This position is a seasonal employee working approximately 20-25 hours a week and requires a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and responsible person to work in a fun environment with children in a summer day camp setting. 

Essential Duties

(Any one position may not include all of the tasks listed, nor do the examples necessarily include all of the tasks performed.)

• Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers.
• Attend mandatory staff orientation and training.
• Set up designated camp area before the start of camp.
• Monitor the camp area and other used areas and attempt to solve any issue to the best of your ability.
• Develop and maintain effective public relations/communications with co-workers, campers, and parents.
• Clean and maintain program area.
• Maintain accurate records and alert the Athletics Program Manager to any issues or concerns.
• Assist in evaluating assigned programs and make recommendations for improvement.
• Provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old with an understanding of Sports Camp procedures—prior experience playing or coaching sports preferred.
• Must have current CPR and First Aid certification or be willing to obtain certification before the start date.
• Should have an outgoing personality with good interpersonal skills.
• Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Physical Requirements, Skills, and Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, some bending, kneeling, and reaching items off the ground and high shelves are required. Performing repetitive hand/arm movements as needed. Able to sit and stand for sustained periods while interacting with children. Constant getting up and down from chairs to accomplish daily activities. Physical set up of camp area and facilities. Reading handwritten information and writing legibly. The employee must lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employees’ general work area is divided between an indoor smoke-free environment with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting and the outdoors. Most work will take place outdoors, requiring exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and occasional rain. Employees will be required to work during various weather conditions, including cold and hot temperatures. 

Work Status

The Summer Sports Camp Site Supervisor position is a seasonal position with the option to work in other areas within the department once the camp season has concluded. This position will have hours that occur from June–August. This position is expected to work 20-25 hours per week during Summer Day Camp, generally from early June through mid-August.
