The Town of Concord's Council on Aging is seeking a part-time Van Driver to transport local older adults to/from appointments, errands and activities. Candidates must have a good driving record, be comfortable driving/parking large vehicles, and enjoy interacting with older adults. Candidates must also be able to assist older adults on/off the van as necessary.
Schedule: 8-10 days per month; additional hours may be available.
Starting salary range: $17.00 to $25.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.

Appointment of the final candidate will be contingent upon completion of pre-placement conditions including criminal and motor vehicle record checks, a physical exam, and drug-screening. Costs for these pre-placement requirements will be borne by the Town.
GENERAL SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Senior Services Director, transports senior members of the community via the Senior Services Division’s van. Drivers will be assigned curb to curb pickups by appointment. Drivers may be called upon to assist a variety of passengers as they use the vehicle.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
External and internal applicants, as well as position incumbents who are or become disabled as defined under the Americans With Disabilities Act, must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.
- Participates in any required training.
- Performs a daily pre-operations safety check.
- Maintains accurate daily logs on ridership and miles.
- Assists passengers on and off the vehicle as needed.
- Assists with the coordination of pick-up and delivery of passengers by taking into account appointment times, pick-up locations and destinations.
- Assists with the carrying of packages onto the van and into the homes of seniors as needed.
- Responds to emergencies in compliance with established procedures, including the completion of accident and/or incident reports.
- Exercises tact and courtesy in dealing with passengers.
- Reports concerns about the safety and well-being of passengers to the appropriate Senior Services staff.
- Operates the wheelchair-lift van.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license; actively licensed for 6 or more years.
- Safe driving record free of multiple and/or recent motor vehicle violations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to operate the wheelchair-lift van.
- Ability to interact in a positive manner with elders.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to drive on both rural and congested roadways in all forms of traffic.
- Ability to drive safely at night and in inclement weather.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance, including checking tire pressure, oil, and gauges, and replacing windshield wipers.
- Familiarity with local roads a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Operates vehicles and assists passengers, requiring corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires a full range of body motion including handling and lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
