Are you organized, able to pivot quickly from one task to another, and confident working independently? Does working with young people energize you? Then we’ve got a position for you as a Seasonal Cultural Arts Program Assistant at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center!
The Page-Walker offers a range of specialty half- and full-day camps, taught by skilled instructors, supported by the Program Specialist and Program Assistant.
Anticipated work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m., June 13-August 18. A general Summer Camp orientation and site-specific training are required prior to first day of camp. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Specialist at the Page-Walker Arts & History Center.
This is a seasonal, non-benefited position, up to 40 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours.Typical Tasks
- Supervise children during lunch and on breaks.
- Develop and lead lunch and afternoon programming for children.
- Work with parents to distribute and collect information and forms in advance of camp.
- Email, telephone, and personal contact with Town of Cary staff, instructors, campers, and parents.
- Assist with camper behavior management.
- Prepare rooms for camp at the beginning of each week.
- Other tasks as assigned by Program Specialist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with youth
- Ability to prioritize assignments and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Skilled at working with computers, specifically Microsoft Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willing to learn RecTrac and ePact software.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Education and Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age and have a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.
Requires some experience working in a camp, school or childcare facility.
Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years toward a bachelor’s degree in elementary/secondary education, recreation, or a related field.
CPR and First-aid Certification required (or ability to obtain one with supplied training)
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires an employee to be able to hear and talk in order to communicate with public. An employee must be able to walk unassisted and move about freely. Requires the ability to lift moderately heavy items (up to 25 lbs.) such as chairs, 6-foot tables, rolling bleachers, and event supplies. Visual acuity is needed in order to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
