The Town of Brookline is accepting applications for a Substance Use Prevention Coalition Coordinator to provide support to the Town's community coalition, the Brookline Coalition for Wellness and Prevention (B-WELL). The Substance use Coalition Coordinator oversees day-to-day operations, facilitates communication, and conducts outreach in support of the Coalition’s goal to prevent youth substance use and enhance community well-being. Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities Include

  • Assists the Substance Use and Violence Prevention Coordinator in developing and guiding the community coalition’s strategic planning and action plans based on the Strategic Prevention Framework.
  • Coordinates day-to-day operations of the community coalition including activities, meetings, trainings, presentations, and evaluation assessments.
  • Facilitates communication within the coalition, ensuring effective collaboration among members. Collaborates with coalition members and related agencies to monitor and evaluate the coalition's effectiveness, progress, and outcome measures.
  • Conducts community outreach to recruit and engage new coalition members, volunteers, and community partners. Seeks to maintain a coalition with representation from 12 key sectors (e.g., youth, parents, business, media, school, law enforcement, etc.).
  • Effectively communicates coalition policies, initiatives, and mission to community agencies and departments within and around the Town of Brookline.
  • Collaborates on community health assessments and collects and analyzes relevant data (e.g., student and parent surveys) to inform the coalition’s strategic planning, action plans, and data-driven initiatives.
  • Collaborates with youth and parent groups, community agencies, organizations, and departments. Represents the coalition at local, state, and national events or associations.
  • Attends relevant trainings to stay informed about local and national trends in substance misuse prevention and public health policies. Identifies and organizes training opportunities and workshops for coalition members and the community.
  • Develops and maintains the coalition's online presence, such as website content management, social media campaigns, and marketing materials. Develops materials for distribution to the community through media outlets and other engagement channels.
  • Collaborates with staff to write and submit grant proposals and annual continuation grants to sustain coalition efforts. Coordinates grant compliance activities, ensuring adherence to programmatic and financial requirements.
  • Documents health assessment and/or survey findings and prepares reports and presentations for community groups and partnering agencies.
  • Coordinates and distributes meeting minutes, updates, and materials.
  • Assists with other health education, analysis, research, and community engagement, as needed.
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in related field. Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Health or equivalent preferred. Two to three years of experience working in the human service or public health field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience working with coalitions, community partnerships, youth development or similar prevention initiatives preferred.

Knowledge, Ability, And Skills

Knowledge: Considerable working knowledge of evidence-based substance misuse prevention strategies, community prevention, public health principles, and the Strategic Prevention Framework. General knowledge of state and local governmental structures, decision-making processes, and organization.

Ability: Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and community stakeholders. Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for community events and meetings. Ability to adapt to changing environments and receive constructive feedback. Ability to effectively establish and maintain collaborative professional relationships. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Multi- or bilingual ability desirable.

Skill: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Strong project management, grant writing, and grant management skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and digital platforms (e.g., Zoom, Canva, Microsoft Teams). Strong time management skills (organization, prioritization, multitasking).
