The Town of Brookline is seeking a skilled and dependable Fleet
Technician (also referred to as a Motor Equipment Repairperson or Heavy
Motor Equipment Mechanic) to join our Department of Public Works. The
Fleet Technician plays a key role in maintaining safe, reliable vehicles
and equipment for the Department of Public Works and other Town
departments. Essential Responsibilities: Diagnose and repair gas and
diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment, including hydraulic
systems, brakes (air and hydraulic), suspension, transmission, steering,
fuel and electrical systems Perform routine preventive maintenance such
as oil changes, fluid checks, lubrication, and safety inspections
Conduct field repairs and respond to equipment breakdowns during
inclement weather or emergencies Install and service auxiliary systems
such as radios, strobes, plows, and other accessories Use hand tools,
pneumatic and power tools, diagnostic software, jacks, cranes, and other
shop equipment Operate trucks and heavy equipment to test and confirm
repairs Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, and service
schedules Follow all applicable safety procedures and industry best
practices Required Qualifications: High School diploma plus technical
training and at least 2 years of experience with heavy truck/equipment
repair and diagnostics. Must possess a valid MA CDL Class B and Hoisting
License. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude,
attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as
part of a team. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and the ability to
interpret technical manuals is essential, along with a thorough
understanding of truck and equipment systems, including air brakes,
electrical components, and hydraulic mechanisms. Success in this role
