Position Summary/Purpose
The Seasonal Maintainer supports the daily operation, safety, and appearance of recreation facilities, parks, and grounds operated by the Branford Parks, Recreation & Senior Services Department. Under the direction of the Director and Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs a wide range of maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping duties to ensure that community buildings, parks, beaches, athletic fields, and related facilities remain safe, clean, and welcoming for residents and visitors.
This role plays an important part in maintaining the quality, accessibility, and functionality of recreation spaces that support community programs and public use.
Essential Job Functions;
The duties listed below are representative of the position and may include other related responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintains the general cleanliness, organization, and appearance of assigned recreation facilities and grounds.
- Inspect facilities and surrounding areas to help ensure safe and appropriate use by patrons.
- Maintain adequate supplies for restrooms, kitchens, and other facility areas.
- Perform routine custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, dusting, polishing floors, washing walls and windows, and cleaning restrooms and fixtures.
- Perform basic maintenance tasks including minor repairs, painting, and upkeep of facilities and equipment.
- Assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks and facility entrances to maintain safe access.
- Load and unload supplies, equipment, and materials as needed.
- Maintain parks and athletic fields, including mowing and trimming of grass and general groundskeeping. Spring & fall cleanup
- Ensure parks and recreation areas remain clean, orderly, and well-maintained.
- Prepare and mark softball, baseball, football, soccer, lacrosse, and other recreation fields as needed for programs and events.
- Assist with the movement, setup, and removal of playground equipment, recreation equipment, and other departmental materials.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of town equipment for programs, events, or facility needs.

Education Training and Experience:
- Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Special Requirements
- Valid state Driver's License
Knowledge, Ability and Skills:
Knowledge:
- Basic knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in building and grounds maintenance
- Familiarity with tools and equipment used for minor repairs and ground maintenance.
Ability:
- Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks according to established schedules.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work including lifting heavy objects and standing or walking for extended periods.
- Ability to perform manual labor in various weather and field conditions.
- Ability to safely operate tools and maintenance equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
Skill:
- Skills in the safe operation and maintenance of tools and equipment commonly used in building, custodial, and grounds maintenance work.
Tools and Equipment Used
Pickup truck; lawn and landscaping equipment including tractors, mowers, chain saws, edgers, and weed trimmers; electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, and irrigation systems; miscellaneous hand and power tools used for turf maintenance, carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and light repair work; janitorial equipment including floor buffers, steam cleaners, carpet cleaners, vacuums, mops, and other cleaning equipment.
