NATURE OF WORK:
Responsible for enhancing the commercial tax base of the Town, supporting and maintaining existing businesses, promoting business expansion, attracting new business and exploring opportunities for new business development.
Works under the general direction of the Mayor and Chief of Staff & Director of Operations, requiring the ability to work effectively in a team and independently, ensuring assigned tasks are performed and completed in a timely fashion.
Work is performed under typical office conditions, with frequent interruptions from the public, town employees and the business community. Travel to off-site locations and meetings may be required. Minimal physical effort demanded.
After hours and weekend work, including availability by phone and attendance at meetings and events, may be required.

· Serves as the liaison between the Mayor’s Office and the Department of Planning and Community Development.
· Manages implementation of economic development goals, objectives, policies and priorities established by the Mayor.
· Seeks out, applies, and manages state and federal funding sources to support economic development activities.
· Supervises and coordinates the work of consultants in support of economic development projects.
· Serves as the primary contact for the business community and the Braintree Chamber of Commerce.
· Supports a variety of economic development initiatives and projects by attending meetings and preparing notes and action items, updating and maintaining datasets and records, researching and compiling key information, and soliciting and acting on feedback from Mayor and senior Town officials on drafts and interim project materials prior to finalization.
· Performs or facilitates financial analyses projecting the economic, budgetary, and related considerations for various projects, including working closely with the Town’s Finance, Planning and Building departments.
· Presents complicated and comprehensive matters to various stakeholders and at differing levels of complexity and depths, utilizing a wide range of communication formats and techniques.
· Assesses existing Town-owned assets and coordinates forward-looking planning for the optimization of Town properties with respect to economic, budgetary, sustainability and related outcomes.
· Monitors federal, state and local economic development programs and funding opportunities and serves as the primary Town lead for the application by the Town for such funding, working closely with the Finance department to maximize the Town’s ability to receive non-Town funding and proactively inform state and federal officials of Town requests and/or projects.
· Performs similar or related work as assigned by the Mayor or Chief of Staff.
Knowledge: Working knowledge of local, state, and federal economic development programs and funding sources.
Skills: Strong analytical, communication and project management skills. Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with economic development practices and policies. Should be able to multitask and meet deadlines.
Ability: Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government officials, business leaders and community members. Ability to manage and oversee multiple projects simultaneously and having the ability to prioritize and bring projects to fruition.
Four (4) years of work experience in a municipal or business environment; bachelor’s degree in public administration, business management, or other related field; or any combination of experience and education.
Minimum physical effort is required to perform most duties. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak and hear, and use hands to operate equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents and use a computer.
