Fire Chief - Paid Part-Time Position
The Town of Blountsville, Alabama is accepting applications for the position of a
Part-Time Fire Chief to lead and manage its Volunteer Fire Department.
The Fire Chief serves as the department’s chief executive officer and is responsible for
providing leadership, direction, and oversight of all fire department operations. This
includes emergency response, training, fire prevention, personnel management,
equipment maintenance, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with applicable local,
state, and federal regulations.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Town of Blountsville is seeking an experienced, ethical, and community-minded fire
professional as its next Fire Chief. The ideal candidate will be a visible, approachable
leader who values integrity, accountability and public service. The Fire Chief answers
directly to the Mayor and Town Council.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide leadership and supervision for all volunteer firefighters and officers.
Direct fire suppression, rescue, emergency response, and incident command
operations.
Develop and implement department policies, procedures, and training programs.
Recruit, retain, and mentor volunteer personnel.
Prepare and manage the department’s annual budget.
Oversee maintenance, testing, and replacement of apparatus and equipment.
Coordinate with municipal officials, neighboring departments, and emergency
management agencies.
Promote fire prevention, public education, and community outreach.
Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, state regulations, and
department policies.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Extensive firefighting experience with progressively increasing leadership
responsibilities.
Experience as a Fire Officer or command-level officer preferred.
Current Alabama Firefighter certification or ability to obtain required certifications.
Valid driver’s license.
Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
Must be of insurable age and be able to pass a background check to include
current and previous employers, driving record check, credit check, and drug
test.
Preferred Qualifications
Fire Officer certification.
Incident Command System (ICS/NIMS) training.
Experience managing a volunteer fire department.
Experience with budgeting, grants, and emergency management.
