Kid Care Assistant Director

Definition
Responsible work assisting the Program Director in the operation of a licensed preschool program. Works with fellow staff in assisting participants, overseeing projects, and providing direct care of participants.
Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Program Director; works independently, in accordance with established procedures, departmental policies and standards; unusual situations are referred to the Director.
Performs a variety of responsible duties which require attention to detail and accuracy and the exercise of considerable judgment and initiative in carrying out.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Works with the director to help oversee and manage the responsibilities of several seasonal staff, volunteers and part-time employees.
Work Environment
Most work is performed in a classroom setting conducted indoor and outdoor at the program site. The workload is subject to seasonal fluctuations.
The employee operates standard office equipment, sports equipment, classroom equipment, automobile.
The employee has ongoing contact with the public and regularly interacts with other town departments. Contact is in person, by telephone, e-mail and in writing.
Errors could result in personal injury, injury to others, and legal repercussions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assists in staff development and management.
Develops programs age appropriate to the children being served.
Serves as the Program Director when they are absent.
Maintains cleaning and upkeep of the facility and maintain an orderly physical environment and monitor safety situations at all times.
Plans and conducts daily activities for the children in the program that will contribute to the care, growth and development.
Keeps accurate records for the children and the program as required by the EEC and the Recreation Department.
Follows licensing procedures to safeguard the health and safety of the children at all times.
Assists in the assignment, review and evaluation of the work of part-time, seasonal and volunteer workers.
Assists department in summer programming as needed.
Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
Experience in working with programs run by the EEC. Three years of experience working in a child care setting. A bachelor’s degree in the education field or equivalent is preferred. A combination of experience and education will be considered.
Additional Requirements
Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Familiarity with programs designed for school age children.
Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with other town employees and the general public. Ability to motivate and encourage participation in programs. Ability to plan and organize programs, including scheduling.. Ability to supervise personnel efficiently. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing with people of all ages. Ability to instruct others.
Excellent planning, organizational and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements
Moderate physical effort is generally required to perform duties at program sites. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, speak and hear, use hands to operate equipment, climb or balance and is routinely required to move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents, use a computer and operate an automobile.
