Role Description

This enthusiastic, organized self-starter will serve as an ambassador of the Town of Arlington Senior Center through engaging educational experiences, special events, outreach, and general programming. This position is under the administrative supervision of the Senior Center Director. The position is full-time and will work 40 hours/week. Alternate schedules may be required depending on program needs, and some Saturdays, evenings, and special events may be required.


Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, promote, and lead educational, enrichment, technology, arts, music, and lifelong learning programs that enhance the quality of life for adults age 50 and older.
  • Research community interests and trends to develop innovative programs and activities that encourage lifelong learning, creativity, social engagement, and cognitive wellness.
  • Develop and implement outreach and engagement initiatives that increase participation and attract a diverse population of older adults.
  • Coordinate and maintain the Senior Center's program calendar, ensuring activities, events, and educational opportunities are accurately scheduled and communicated.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with colleges, nonprofits, state agencies, community organizations, instructors, speakers, and volunteers to expand educational programming and outreach opportunities.
  • Coordinate educational partnerships and classes with organizations such as Rhodes College, Creative Aging Memphis, and other community partners.
  • Develop, coordinate, and lead technology education programs and provide technology assistance to participants to improve digital literacy and confidence.
  • Develop and coordinate educational programs that promote lifelong learning, creativity, and cognitive wellness, including STEAM, arts, music, and other enrichment opportunities.
  • Assist the Director to recruit, train, coordinate, and recognize volunteers who support Senior Center programs, classes, special events, and daily operations.
  • Develop promotional materials, flyers, newsletters, brochures, social media content, and other communications to increase awareness of Senior Center programs and encourage community participation.
  • Represent the Senior Center at community events and outreach activities, including collaborative efforts with the Town's Parks and Recreation Department and other organizations.
  • Maintain accurate membership records, attendance data, registrations, calendars, and other program documentation; collect program fees and prepare deposits in accordance with Town procedures.
  • Prepare quarterly, annual, and other required reports regarding membership, attendance, program participation, outreach efforts, and other operational data.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness, participant feedback, and attendance trends to recommend improvements and identify future programming opportunities.
  • Ensure assigned programs comply with applicable policies, procedures, grant requirements, and reporting standards.
  • Enforce Senior Center policies and procedures, promote a safe environment, respond appropriately to emergencies, complete incident reports, and coordinate the Center's annual Emergency Preparedness event.
  • Greet and assist participants and visitors; answer phones, respond to routine inquiries, and provide information regarding Senior Center programs, services, and community resources.
  • Assist with program registration, setup, breakdown, communications, and general daily operations of the Senior Center.
  •  Assist with special events, light facility upkeep, and other duties necessary to support daily Center operations.
  • Handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Previous experience planning and conducting programs in education, parks and recreation, and/or social settings preferred, but not required;
  • Bachelor’s degree in education, human services, or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in the State of Tennessee;
  • Prior experience in a senior environment preferred;
  • Any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
