What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Scheduler position at Town of Andover?
Under the direction ofthe Director of Elder Services andis responsible forcoordinating and scheduling all transportation for adults and people with disabilities, which requires working closely with the Services Coordinator, SocialWorkersand Staff Drivers.Duties receiving and processing transportation requests, creating schedules for Staff Drivers and volunteer medical drivers, as well as coordinating maintenance.
- Answers transportation phone calls and schedules riders and drivers for grocery shopping, medical transportation, rides to and from the Robb Center, Townieridesand Supportive Day rides.
- Working in conjunction with the Social Workers and transportation policies,verifyresidents’ eligibility to participate in transportation programs. Make informed recommendations for alternate transportation programs to meet the needs ofresident.
- Schedules volunteer drivers to take seniors to medical appointments. Schedules supported medical rides with designated Homecare Agencies.
- Coordinates daily schedule for drivers ensuring all passengers are accommodated efficiently with consideration of routing and traffic patterns. Communicates last minute schedule changes to drivers and social workers whenappropriate.
- Issue Rideshare Vouchers and according to transportation policies. Works withOfficeAssistant to verify transportation billing and resolve discrepancies.
- Schedules and tracks driver training. Maintains training documentation in compliance with MassDOT,AgeSpanand other agencies.
- May berequiredtooperatea vehicle and transport passengers duringperiodsstaff drivers are unavailable.
- Perform related transportation duties asrequired.
Skills,Knowledgeand Abilities
- Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices,formsand equipment; dexterity and accuracy inoperatinga computer.
- Ability to prepare routine correspondence and reportsutilizingMicrosoft Office Suite.
- Ability to understand, learn,interpretand explain policies and procedures, and to apply such guidelines appropriately to different situations.
- Ability to learn andoperatecomputer systems and smart phone applications such as Uber and Google Maps.
- Ability to interact effectively and pleasantly with a wide variety of individuals, including customers, co-workers, outside professionals and members of the public.
- Ability to prioritize requests based on urgency and need, perform multipletasksand deal effectively with interruptions.
Education and Experience
Duties requirehighschool diploma or equivalent withone yearrelated work experience; knowledge of office administration, and automated office systems and procedures; specialized; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and pass a CORI background check.

- Normal office environment, not subject to extremes in noise, temperature, odors, etc. Occasional nights and weekendsrequired.

- Frequent interruptions toassistcustomers in the office or over the telephone.
- May spend extended periods atterminal, on telephone, oroperatingother office machines, requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
