What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Town of Addison?
Under general supervision, performs and supervises accounting tasks of moderate difficulty in support of the financial activities and operation of the Town. Implements and administers reconciliation functions, identifying any problems, collecting information and recommending solutions.
- Prepares various monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations and related journal entries.
- Tracks revenue collection and reconciliation associated with assigned general ledger accounts; researches and corrects errors.
- Administers billing and collections for Mixed Beverage Permits.
- Administers billing and collections for the Airport Utility Passthroughs and Airport Customs Fees.
- Prepares monthly Fuel Flowage report for Airport.
- Prepares CPI adjustments for Airport.
- Administers the employee expense reimbursement process.
- Performs testing for various GASB standards, records annual entries, and prepares schedules needed for the annual audit; provides updates for any related transparency pages on website.
- Updates and performs system-generated allocations for month-close.
- Documents and organizes Economic Incentive agreements, prepares schedules needed for audit, and provides updates to economic incentives transparency page on website.
- Processes insurance claims against the Town and claims against responsible parties.
- Oversees the annual insurance renewal process with TML.
- Participates in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
- Performs detailed financial testing and trend analysis; participates in various projects as assigned.
- Coordinates and works with internal and external parties to manage expectations, workflow, and work processes; identifies areas for improvement.
- May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
- Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; AND
- Three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably government accounting; OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Conditions of Employment:

- Knowledge of accounting theories, principles, and practices; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of automated accounting systems.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and ordinances.
- Skill in applying and maintaining internal controls.
- Skill in interpreting and applying government finance and accounting industry standards and best practices.
- Skill in managing and completing projects; meeting deadlines.
- Skill in preparing clear and concise written and verbal reports.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Skill in and ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relations with fellow employees, Town officials, and outside contractors.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Office is located in a two-story building without an elevator. Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions.
