What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Supervisor position at Town of Addison?

Under general supervision of the Recreation Programs Manager, manages the planning, developing, supervising, and implementing family recreation, and aquatic programs associated with the Addison Athletic Club and in the Town of Addison Parks. 

  • Research, plans, designs and implements a full range of active, social, educational, and wellness programs for families of all ages. 
  • Advertises for and secures agreements with and directs outside vendors to ensure recreation and aquatics initiatives and department initiatives are being met.  
  • Manages contracts with outside vendors and ensures contract obligations are being met.
  • Maintains budgets for assigned programs; researches and purchases new and replacement equipment and supplies. 
  • Promotes and markets club -related and town -related recreational programs and special events; researches new marketing opportunities; acts as a liaison between participants and the Recreation Department; addresses and resolves issues and concerns. 
  • Participates in implementing and supervising programs and activities as needed. 
  • Instructs classes or leads programs as needed.
  • Manages, trains, and supervises assigned staff; may participate in the new hire process; makes recommendation for disciplinary actions as appropriate. 
  • Research liability issues and updates policies and procedures as appropriate to uphold appropriate standard of safety and care.
  • Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required. 
  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.
  • Meets and greets the public; answers telephones; reserves facilities on request; inputs and retrieves computer data; prepares various reports and schedules; drafts memos and promotional materials.
  • Verifies water chemistry is compliant with State regulations; monitors condition of pool equipment to ensure it is functioning properly; coordinates with pool vendors to repair equipment and order pool chemicals.
  • Monitors condition of aquatic equipment and ensures it is functioning properly; coordinates repairs either in-house or with vendors.
  • Monitors areas for cleanliness and coordinates cleaning with in-house staff or contracted cleaning service.
  • May be asked to perform additional job duties that are directly, indirectly or completely unrelated to normal job functions in the course of presenting certain Town special events.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Education, Sports or related field; AND
  • Three (3) years of experience in recreation programming, supervising staff and volunteers, or leading fitness programming. Preferred experience in aquatic facility and/or recreation facility programming and experience with aquatic pump and mechanical maintenance and repair; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Prefer a current certification from one of the following: American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, Lifeguard, and/or Water Safety Instructor.

Conditions of Employment:
  • Safe driving record and valid Texas Driver’s License. 
  • Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be CPR, First Aid, and AED, Aquatic Facility Operator certified or obtain within six (6) months of appointment. Additional certifications may be required depending on area of assignment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and practices. 
  • Knowledge of recreational and pool management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Parks and Recreation services and the important role they play in the community.
  • Knowledge of marketing methods. 
  • Knowledge of supervisory leadership, principles and practices. 
  • Knowledge of leadership experience and knowledge of fitness and health programming. 
  • Knowledge of applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances. 
  • Skilled in creating marketing materials. 
  • Skilled in interacting with the public professionally and tactfully. 
  • Skilled in demonstrating the proper use of recreation and aquatic equipment and exercise machines. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed throughout recreation and aquatics facilities.  Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions. May be exposed to potentially dangerous recreation equipment and pool chemicals. 

This is an exempt position; incumbent will be expected to work whatever hours are necessary to complete responsibilities.
