What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Architecture Intern position at Town of Addison?
Under general supervision of the Parks Project Manager or their designated appointee(s), the Landscape Architecture Intern assists Parks Department staff with park planning, design, maintenance coordination, and special projects. The position provides exposure to municipal park operations, landscape architecture workflows, and public project processes.
- Assist with park and landscape design projects, including research, drafting and preparation of illustrative materials.
- Participate in site analysis, planning tasks, and internal design review processes.
- Supports ongoing maintenance planning efforts and project documentation.
- Collaborate with staff on community engagement efforts and park programming initiatives.
- Attend project site visits, field assessments, and internal meetings as required.
- Assists with general administrative tasks including data entry, file organization, and preparation of presentation materials.
- May be asked to perform related duties not directly associated with core responsibilities to support Parks Department operations.
Education and Experience:
- High school graduate or GED equivalent; AND
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) or Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) program, OR
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Texas Driver’s License; safe driving record.
- Clear Criminal Background check and pre-employment drug screen.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong interest in public space design, park planning, and municipal landscape projects.
- Proficiency in design software, including AutoCAD, LandFX, SketchUp, GIS and Adobe Create Suite
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, consultants and community members.
- Skill in preparing graphics, reports and design documentation.
- Ability to maintain organized records and manage multiple project tasks.
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Work is generally performed indoors in an air-conditioned facility but may also include limited exposure to outside weather conditions.
This part time, non-benefited position typically works 20-30 hours per week, Monday-Thursday. Hours may vary based on department needs. Up to 40 hours may be scheduled during academic semesters.
