What are the responsibilities and job description for the Library Assistant 1 (Benefitted) position at Town of Acton, MA?
The Town of Acton is seeking applicants for the open benefitted Library Assistant I position at the Acton Memorial Library. This position will be working 29 hours a week and will report to the Head of Patron Services. Interviews for this position will begin in the beginning of January.
General Duties and Responsibilities: In this position, one is expected to perform the duties of the Patron Services Department which includes but is not limited to shelving, shelf reading, checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, answering phone calls, assisting in programs and other duties. The Patron Services Department is a collaborative team of about ten staff members who value clear communication and a positive, supportive work environment. We believe that when we work together with enthusiasm and curiosity, we create a welcoming library experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency; One (1) year direct work experience with the Public and working with computers; demonstrated attention to detail; communications and public service skills; experience working with different cultures; experience in basic computer troubleshooting. Applicants must be able to stand, bend, stoop, and reach throughout significant portions of a 4-8 hour shift and to push a fully loaded book truck.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in an automated library; prior experience in a customer service environment; additional education; fluency in another language besides English. Sierra experience.
Special Requirements: Hours vary depending on department need. Work schedule includes one night a week, one Saturday in three required, also one Sunday in three early October through mid-June at time and a half. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by program and service schedules. For example: possibly helping at an after-hours event, tabling at community events, etc.
Pay Rate: Starting at $24.98 - $27.30/per hour
Benefits: Up to a $425 fitness club reimbursement program (if enrolled in Town Health Insurance plan). Health, Dental, Vision, and an attractive pension system are just some of our competitive insurance and benefits. The Town pays 75% of the Health Insurance cost.
