The Town of Acton is seeking a full-time Information Technology Technician to join the Information Technology (IT) Department. This position serves as an IT Technician in the maintenance and support of all Town-owned technology equipment, cloud services, cybersecurity tools, endpoint systems, communications platforms, and business applications. Reporting to the Director of Innovation and Technology, this role provides support in all phases of office organization and administration, public assistance, committee and community support, digital service delivery, technology training, and secure municipal operations.
General Duties and Responsibilities: The IT Technician provides daily technology services to all Town departments, including desktop system installation and maintenance, Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 support, printer and copier support, network maintenance, endpoint deployment, patching, inventory, and remote support. This role maintains and supports the Town’s infrastructure, including networks, servers, virtualization platforms, storage, backup systems, cloud services, wireless systems, security tools, and related monitoring systems. Strong customer service and technical troubleshooting skills are required for daily tasks.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, or a related field preferred; comparable work experience may be substituted for education. Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to work non-standard hours, including assisting on short notice as problems arise, working non-standard hours to minimize downtime impact on staff, and occasional extended hours on special or routine projects. Thorough knowledge of information technology operations, systems, hardware, software, networking, cybersecurity, and business applications in a municipal or business environment. Must be familiar with standard business applications such as financial management applications, Adobe PDF tools, document management systems, and ticketing or service management systems.
Preferred Qualifications: Municipal experience; Desktop systems experience including Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365, file servers, client/server hardware and software, database concepts, and line-of-business applications; network experience including TCP/IP networks, switches, routers, wireless access points, VPN, firewalls, and network troubleshooting; experience with endpoint imaging, deployment, patching, asset management, remote support, and mobile device support; experience with security systems, access control, surveillance, MFA, endpoint detection and response, vulnerability remediation, and phishing or security awareness practices; experience with server virtualization, shared network storage, backup systems, cloud services, website content management, VoIP/telephone systems, public safety technology, and audio/visual or meeting technology.
Special Requirements: Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings as needed. Availability for off-hours emergency support as needed.
Pay Rate: I-14; $83,755.93-$88,856.68 annually
