What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Outreach Fellowship - Sustainability Office position at Town of Acton, MA?
The Town of Acton is looking for a Community Outreach Fellow to support efforts to increase the number of residents who can benefit from local and state energy efficiency and clean energy programs. This includes days dedicated to tabling and conducting in-person outreach. Fellows will build on existing outreach plans to identify locations for outreach that are in the Environmental Justice region and/or close to the homes of residents who rent, are income-eligible, and live in multi-family buildings. We are looking for applicants with an interest in: clean energy/renewable energy, energy efficiency, equity/energy justice, communication/marketing, public outreach, program/project management, and municipal sustainability planning. This position is funded by the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) managed by the MA Department of Energy Resources (DOER), and will work closely with the Town of Acton’s Energy Advocate/Outreach Specialist.
General Duties and Responsibilities: The scope of the work will include: Collecting data and conducting research on programs and opportunities to reduce energy costs and use and improve the building performance of multi-family buildings, ensuring benefits are passed on to tenants. Development of outreach materials, including graphics for social media. Tabling and in-person outreach in target locations. Participation in weekly project meeting check-ins with the team. Participation in meetings with local organizations, and participation in and planning of events that engage renters, landlords and property managers.
Minimum Entrance Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, building science, architecture, clean energy, urban and regional planning, public administration, communications, business, sustainability, or a related field. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team environment. Willingness to learn quickly and produce creative solutions.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree or currently pursuing their Master’s degree in environmental studies, sustainable building systems, engineering, urban and regional planning, public administration, business, communications, sustainability science, or a related field. Experience with graphic design, government operations, environmental non-profits, or corporate social responsibility is a plus.
Start Date: mid-November/early December
Pay Rate: This is a grant funded temporary position: $25 an hour for a 3-6 month program (depending on total hours per week), with roughly 15-20 hours per week.
