What are the responsibilities and job description for the Municipal Litigation Attorney position at Town Counsel Law & Litigation, LLC?
Municipal Attorney – Litigation & Prosecution
Town Counsel Law & Litigation | Fox Valley, Wisconsin
Make Your Mark in the Courtroom—While Serving Wisconsin Communities
Town Counsel Law & Litigation is a growing municipal law firm based in the Fox Valley, proudly representing towns, villages, cities, counties, and other public entities across Wisconsin. We serve as general counsel to municipalities and as defense counsel through municipal insurers.
We are seeking a motivated Municipal Attorney to join our team—someone who wants meaningful courtroom experience, hands-on litigation responsibility, and the opportunity to build a dynamic municipal law practice. This role offers immediate exposure to municipal and circuit court, real trial experience, and mentorship in complex litigation.
If you’re eager to sharpen your litigation skills while doing work that directly impacts Wisconsin communities, this is the role for you.
What You’ll Do
- Take the lead in court prosecuting municipal ordinance violations—including OWI, traffic, and code enforcement matters—in both municipal and circuit court.
- Manage cases from start to finish, handling motions, hearings, trials, and resolutions.
- Develop strong litigation skills through drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings, and by arguing matters before judges.
- Advise municipal leaders and staff on ordinances, statutes, enforcement authority, and administrative procedures.
- Work on nuisance and property enforcement matters, including raze/repair, raze actions, and other compliance issues.
- Assist with a broad range of municipal legal matters, including complex litigation, contract review, ordinance drafting, resolutions, and legal opinions.
- Stay at the forefront of Wisconsin municipal law, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of statutes, case law, and best practices.
- Collaborate closely with municipal officials, law enforcement, inspectors, and court staff to achieve effective and practical outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice in Wisconsin.
- Interest in litigation, courtroom advocacy, and public-sector law.
- Prior experience in prosecution, municipal law, or litigation is preferred, but not required.
- Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases while working independently and as part of a team.
- A professional, confident presence in court and in interactions with elected officials and staff.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
- Immediate courtroom experience—not years of document review.
- Supportive, collaborative firm culture with opportunities to learn and grow.
- Stable, community-focused practice with long-term professional development potential.
- Meaningful work that directly affects public safety and local governance.
- Broad exposure to municipal law, from prosecutions to complex litigation.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Combination of in-office work and regular court appearances.
- Occasional evening meetings or extended hours to support municipal needs.
- Monday–Friday schedule.
- In-person position based in the Fox Valley.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- 401(k) with employer matching.
- Health insurance and health savings account (HSA).
- Paid time off.
- Flexible scheduling options.
