Summary
The Tower Crew Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating a crew of tower technicians in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of wireless telecommunications towers and related equipment. This role requires leadership in the field, ensuring that all work is completed safely, on schedule, and in compliance with quality standards and customer requirements. The Tower Crew Lead works closely with the Tower Foreman and Project Manager to deliver successful projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a crew of tower hands and technicians on job sites.
- Ensure all crew members follow safety standards, including OSHA, ANSI, and company climbing/rescue procedures.
- Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and ensure project milestones are met.
- Perform and supervise tower climbing, rigging, and installation of antennas, coax, fiber, mounts, and other equipment.
- Conduct pre-job site assessments, daily safety briefings, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Read and interpret construction drawings, project specifications, and RF data sheets.
- Operate and direct the use of rigging equipment, winches, and hoisting systems.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members to develop technical skills and safety awareness.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, including timesheets, material usage, and daily reports.
- Communicate effectively with Tower Foreman, Project Managers, and clients regarding job progress, challenges, and solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical or operational issues in the field.
- Ensure company vehicles, tools, and equipment are properly maintained and accounted for.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certifications:
- TTT1 (Required)
- Authorized Climber, Rigging & Rescuer Certification (Required)
- OSHA 10/30 Construction Safety (Required)
- RF Awareness (Preferred)
- Bloodborne (Preferred)
- Heat/Cold Stress (Preferred)
- First Aid/CPR (Preferred)
- HazCom (Preferred)
- Lockout/Tagout (Preferred)
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training a plus.
- 3 years of tower climbing and telecom construction experience.
- 1 years of supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.
- Proficiency in tower rigging, antenna and line installation, connector termination, and testing procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret RF engineering plans, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Knowledge of industry standards, including OSHA, NATE, ANSI, and RF safety.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record; CDL preferred (depending on company requirements).
- Must pass background check, drug screen, and physical/climb test.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to climb and work at heights exceeding [insert height, e.g., 500 feet].
- Lift, carry, and pull up to 75 lbs. regularly.
- Work in outdoor environments and various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay overnight as needed.
