Tourism Economics, based in Center City Philadelphia and Wayne, PA, is a subsidiary of Oxford Economics dedicated to analytical consulting in the tourism sector. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic final year undergraduate or master’s program student to join our team as a Data Engineering, and Visualization Intern. Duration of the internship is 12-weeks (start date June 1) with the opportunity for a full-time role.
In this role, you will be playing a crucial part in shaping next-generation Business Intelligence solutions in the travel sector. If you are eager to apply your academic knowledge to real-world challenges and are passionate about data, this might be the perfect.
Our client includes destination marketing organizations at the city, state, and national levels; leading industry trade associations; and major corporate owners, operators and brands in the travel sector. We have a longstanding relationship with many of our clients, typically through subscription-based services or recurring studies.
This client base continue to show strong interest in Tourism Economics’ new Data Analytics & Insights services and our market intelligence platform (Symphony) and we are expanding our team to meet future needs.

Core responsibilities
- Assist in the design and implementation of innovative BI solutions, working under the guidance of experienced professionals.
- Contribute to building data architecture and pipelines to support business analysis, data science initiatives, and customer reporting needs.
- Collaborate with data engineering and analyst teams to extract, transform, and load data from various data sources.
- Participate in the management and maintenance of data sets to monitor travel-sector trends, including assisting with destination-specific analysis and reporting.
- Help develop and manage Tableau dashboards to provide clients with clear and updated insights on topics like travel-sector performance.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, data analysts, and other team members in defining requirements and developing solutions.
- Engage in continuous research to implement new techniques and tools that enhance the efficiency of BI and data visualization solutions.
Candidate Qualifications
- Currently in an undergraduate or master's program in Computer Science, Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Academic experience in working with scripting languages such as Python and/or R.
- Familiarity with SQL and the ability to write queries across data sets (academic projects/experiences are considered).
- Understanding of data visualization tools like Tableau, gained through academic coursework or projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen interest in translating complex data into actionable insights.
- Solid writing and communication skills, capable of creating impactful reports and dashboards as part of academic projects.
- A proactive learner with a knack for researching and implementing new techniques and tools.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on end-to-end projects as part of academic coursework or extracurricular activities.
