Responsibilities
- Safely operate flatbed tractor-trailers along designated OTR routes, adhering strictly to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques, forklifts, or other equipment as required, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Navigate efficiently using GPS navigation systems to optimize routes and meet delivery schedules.
- Transport a variety of freight including hazardous materials (hazmat), dangerous goods, or specialized cargo such as refrigerated trailers or tanker loads.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections of the truck and trailer to ensure compliance with safety standards and vehicle readiness.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery records, and cargo documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Communicate proactively with dispatch teams regarding route updates, delivery status, or any issues encountered on the road.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, especially with flatbed trailers and route driving across long distances.
- Knowledge of FMCSA regulations, hazardous materials regulations, DOT compliance, and safety procedures for manual transmission trucks.
- Skilled in load & unload procedures, freight handling, and securing cargo on flatbeds or tanker trailers.
- Ability to operate GPS navigation systems confidently for efficient route planning.
- Experience with automobile transportation or specialty loads such as roll-off trucks or dump trucks is a plus.
- Familiarity with forklift operation for loading/unloading cargo when necessary.
- Strong understanding of logistics cargo handling and delivery driving best practices to ensure timely deliveries while maintaining safety standards.
- Must possess Class A CDL
- Must be 25 years of age
- 2 years verifiable OTR flatbed
- Current TWIC card
- Must be able to read and write in English proficiently
- Pay is percentage based.
- Strict ELD conformity.
