Postion Summary
The duties are generally classified as: (a) providing safety and security services that will meet on a 24-hour basis the many diverse needs of an active college community, (b) checking for safety and security hazards before they occur, and (c) offering necessary assistance in emergencies.
Duties
Patrolling and checking all areas of the campus grounds and buildings for both potential and actual safety and security hazards.
Investigating all accidents and other incidents, either criminal or non-criminal, and handling and reporting them appropriately.
Being alert for the presence of suspicious persons and circumstances on campus.
Regulating and enforcing traffic and parking policies.
Being watchful for and reporting energy wastes, such as unnecessary lighting, and maintenance problems, such as nonfunctioning lighting.
Providing advice and counsel to members of the college community on safety and security matters.
Providing assistance to members of the college community and its visitors by providing escorts and battery boosts.
Providing campus information and directions as needed.
Providing other services or performing other duties as required by circumstances or instruction of the appropriate higher authority.
Obey all laws, policies, procedures, and orders and likewise promptly execute the same.
Receive records and service immediately all complaints and requests for service in accordance with Tougaloo College and Department of Public Safety orders.
Maintain a courteous and respectful attitude toward all persons.
Conduct searches, detain personnel, conduct surveillance, interview victims and witnesses.
Respond to emergencies and calls for assistance.
Give testimony in court or on-campus hearings.
Maintain sensitive, confidential information in a secure manner.
Properly operate and use departmental equipment, vehicles, etc.
Maintain daily written duty log of activities and prepare written reports, as necessary.
Monitor and check all vehicles and pedestrians entering the campus.
Conform to all Standard and Special operating procedures listed herein.
Monitor surveillance cameras and take appropriate action as required.
Use Basic Computer Skills To Complete Required Reports.

Work Environment
Required to work nights/weekends/holidays
The ability to stand for 8 hours
Able to walk, stoop, bend, run, and with no difficulty
Must be able to work in inclement weather or weather extremes
Requires physical skills to be able to walk, climb stairs, and make routine foot patrols
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
