Responsibilities
- Monitor residents’ health and safety throughout the overnight shift by observing vital signs and overall condition.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident’s
. - Administer medications following care plans and HIPAA regulations to ensure proper patient care.
- Conduct regular patient observations to identify any changes in condition or behavior, especially for those with dementia, Alzheimer's, autism or other developmental disabilities.
- Prepare nutritious meals and snacks aligned with dietary needs and preferences; assist residents with eating if necessary.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient care activities, vital signs, medication administration, and incident reports in compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Perform light cleaning duties to uphold a safe and sanitary environment within residents’ living spaces.
- Respond promptly to emergencies or urgent needs during the night shift by coordinating with emergency services when required.
- Support residents’ emotional well-being through compassionate interaction and social engagement during quiet hours.
- Follow all safety protocols related to home & community care, hospice care, and long-term care environments.
Skills
- Proven experience in home health, assisted living, nursing homes, or group home settings with a focus on overnight caregiving.
- Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques including vital signs assessment and dementia or Alzheimer’s care strategies.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid is essential; additional certifications such as HIPAA compliance are highly valued.
- Ability to assist with ADLs using assistive devices like Hoyer lifts; capable of heavy lifting when necessary for resident transfers or mobility support.
- Experience working with people with disabilities or developmental challenges such as autism or other special needs populations.
- Strong observational skills to monitor patient condition changes and respond appropriately.
- Excellent communication skills for documenting care accurately and collaborating with healthcare teams.
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures following prescribed care plans.
- Ability to work independently during overnight hours while maintaining high standards of safety and compassion.
