About the Role:
The Mammography Technician plays a critical role in the early detection and diagnosis of breast diseases by performing high-quality mammographic imaging procedures. This position requires the technician to operate specialized imaging equipment to capture detailed breast images while ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout the process. The technician collaborates closely with radiologists and healthcare teams to provide accurate imaging that supports effective diagnosis and treatment planning. Attention to detail and adherence to regulatory standards are essential to maintain image quality and patient confidentiality. Ultimately, the Mammography Technician contributes significantly to improving patient outcomes through precise imaging and compassionate care.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program with a focus on mammography.
- Certification as a Mammography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or equivalent.
- Valid state licensure to perform mammography procedures in the United States.
- Demonstrated knowledge of radiation safety and patient care standards.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients and healthcare team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a clinical or hospital setting performing mammography exams.
- Additional certifications in breast imaging or related diagnostic modalities.
- Familiarity with digital mammography and 3D tomosynthesis technology.
- Training in patient counseling or support to assist patients with anxiety related to mammography.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and imaging software.
Responsibilities:
- Perform mammographic imaging procedures following established protocols and safety guidelines to ensure high-quality diagnostic images.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately for mammography exams, explaining procedures to alleviate patient anxiety and ensure cooperation.
- Operate and maintain mammography equipment, conducting routine quality control checks and reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Collaborate with radiologists by providing accurate images and assisting in image review when necessary.
- Maintain detailed patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
- Stay current with advances in mammography technology and participate in continuing education to maintain certification and improve skills.
