Job Summary:The registered nurse is a professional practitioner who delivers patient care through the nursing process. (Mid-shift - 10a-10p)Functions and Duties:Collaborates with the patient, family and healthcare team to promote positive patient outcomesAssess and reassess patient clinical condition, which includes objective and subjective assessment data.Develop, implement and evaluate a patient’s Plan of Care.Utilize critical thinking skills for patient care and daily operations. Demonstrates clinical competencies and skills applicable to unit.Coordinates, initiates, and validates teaching based on identified learning needs of the patient and designated support person.Manages, administers and reconciles medications. Documents patient care, interventions and responses in the electronic health record (EHR) timely and accurately.Delegates appropriately according to skill level.Triage according to the ESI triage algorithm.Manage sexual assault victims care, paperwork and evidence.Medication management including Omnicell and refrigerator monitoring.Facilitate patient flow.Prioritize and delegate tasks related to patient care.Clear communication with First Responders in the Community (EMS).Knowledge of role in codes including but not limited to:Inside Response TeamOutside Response TeamCode Blue in EDCode Blue in houseCode Blue on groundsExpress TeamCode Green including the function of the Decon RoomOther hospital codesClear and sensitive communication with patients and families who are dealing with various stages of trauma and tragedy.Management of an expired patient including but not limited to:Coroner notificationM transplant notificationFuneral home notificationMorgue placementPatient belongingsFamily physician notificationPolice if requiredSafe management of Behavioral Health patients in acute crisis.Transfer management per EMTALA guidelines.Performs all other duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications:EducationGraduate of an accredited school of nursing required.ExperienceGreater than one (1) year of working experience in a similar unit with comparable patient acuity is preferred.Certifications, Licenses, and RegistrationsBLS certified required.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hirePediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent within 1 year of hire De-Escalation training within 6 months of employment.Current Illinois RN State licensure required.Skills and AbilitiesNone.Physical Demands:Sit or stand for a prolonged period of timeRegularly exposed to body fluids with the risk of bloodborne pathogens or airborne pathogensMust be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (mask, gown, gloves) when required.Lifting/transferringAble to lift 25 pounds from floor to waist using proper body mechanicsAble to transfer or position clients greater than 50 pounds with assistance or assistive devicesRequesting assistance is expected Pushing/pullingRequired in positioning and moving clients and medical equipment.
